Case study

Time reporting for 50+ employees

A serverless application that replaced manual time reporting for more than 50 employees.

My role

I built the application and moved the team from separate manual reports to one shared workflow.

The constraint

Employees worked across time zones, countries, and roles. Project managers, accounting, billing, and leadership each needed a different level of reporting detail.

The difficult part wasn't the weekly form. It was replacing several department-specific processes without losing the information required for approvals, billing, and financial reporting.

The decision

Rather than reproduce each department's manual process, I worked with stakeholders and employees to define one centralized weekly workflow.

  1. Employees
  2. Time application
  3. Project managers
  4. Accounting and billing
  5. Leadership

Employees entered time through one interface. The application then presented the appropriate detail to each downstream group instead of asking employees to maintain several versions of the same report.

Outcome

The application reduced manual reporting time by 50% at launch and by 75% within six months while reducing errors and improving reporting accuracy.
